Are Cadaver Dogs saying You're Lying?

by Pat Brown

Funny thing about those cadaver dogs; they haven't got a bone to pick with the person being investigated, no interest in closing a case or in railroading anyone. They just do what they have been trained to do. They may not be perfect in that they miss hitting on a spot, but they don't hit on spots for no reason. They are trained to locate where dead bodies of humans have been, not live human beings, not dirty diapers, not on a package of meat, nor a hundred other unseen types of biological items. There is only one thing that trips them up; the body of a decomposing pig (because of the similarity it has to a human body). Unless you can prove you had a dead hog lying about in you living room or in your car, the hit a cadaver dog makes is going to be on human remains. Actually, I am the one of very few people who could actually have a cadaver dog hit in my house for that very reason since my beloved potbelly pig, Gwendolyn (see the video) did indeed expire on my living room floor; however, most people can't make that claim.

Gerry and Kate McCann, parents of the missing child, Madeleine McCann, dismiss the fact that Eddie, the cadaver dog, hit in their vacation apartment and in their rental car in 2007 (but not in any of their friends' vacation apartments nor early suspect Robert Murat's house or property) as meaningless because cadaver dogs are "rubbish." In that same year, a cadaver dog also alerted to the smell of death in Adrian Prout's UK home after his wife, Kate, vanished. Although he claimed he was innocent and her body had not been found, Prout was convicted. After having a fan club that protested steadily that Prout was railroaded, Prout confessed and indicated the area where the body was buried; then more cadaver dogs helped police in the search and Kate's body was found on his farm.

Next we have cadaver dogs hitting in the case of missing baby, Lisa Irwin, who supposedly was abducted in the middle of the night while her intoxicated mother slept. They hit on one spot in the Kansas City home of the parents, Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, right on the floor next to the bed in the master bedroom. Deborah, the mother, claims she changed diapers there, but if the dogs were hitting on dirty diapers in the home, I would gather they would hit in more places than that one spot.

Now, cadaver dogs have hit again in a missing child case. Two-year-old Bianca Jones went missing in Detroit on December 2. Her father, D'Andre Lane, who was babysitting her at time, claimed on the day he was to return the child to her mother's home, he was carjacked at 10 in the morning by two men with guns. Now, his story stinks worse than a decomposing body. First of all, the "carjackers" choose him (a streetwise felon) driving a 1994 Mercury Marquis (not exactly a hot car from the most carjacked automobiles list). Daddy, seeing two thugs are about to drive off with his little girl puts up no resistance. Instead he calls 911 and the police go searching for the car.

Oddly, it is found just six blocks away (and one block from Binika Jones' house, the mother of Bianca), with no child in it. So, let me get this straight. These two carjackers went to the trouble of ousting D'Andre Lane from a car with a toddler in the car seat, don't take the car somewhere and strip it, don't sell it, don't use it for committing robberies (a common use of a carjacked vehicle) and don't take it for a joyride. They drive just six blocks and dump it. Maybe they didn't realize there was a child in it and, therefore abandoned the car? Maybe, but then why would they take the child? The story blows. And so did Dre's attempt to pass the polygraph. Not only that, but two witnesses saw the action: one saw D'Andre driving alone down the street and the other, standing by a window overlooking the alley, saw Lane pull the vehicle into it and walk away. No baby seen with him or in the car.

D'Andre Lane is swearing up and down he didn't have anything to do with his daughter going missing, but everything about his story has been pretty much been annihilated by the circumstances and witnesses. The cadaver dogs hitting in his apartment and in his car pretty much puts a bow on his story as being a crock.

D'Andre Lane is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but he isn't a suspect for nothing. In the words of Gerry McCann, "Ask the dogs."

Thanks Pat. My heart always sinks when I hear that cadaver dogs have alerted in a missing child case.

I think in the McCann case it's relevant that Eddie the cadaver dog is an EVRD - an Enhanced Victim Recovery Dog - and he's had training with the FBI in the USA on human cadavers at the Body Farm.

Martin Grime, Eddie's handler states in his police evidence (PJ Files) that Eddie alerts to human cadaver and he has never alerted to 'Road Kill' (or bacon sandwiches, as the McCann sycophants constantly and erroneously insist).

Martin Grime's profile on Eddie & Keela from the police files:-

Thank you for all the work you're doing to discover the truth about what happened to Maddie in Portugal, in Spring 2007.

You have truly put a perspective on the cases where Cadaver dogs have been used both in the UK and USA, by pulling this cases together it really brings home to you the value of these dogs.

One wonders, although do we need to what the reaction of Mr and Mrs McCann would have been had any hint whatsoever of cadaver odour been found in or around Robert Murat’s home.

I don’t know much about the way of libel\litigation laws but the move on Amazon by Carter Ruck, was extraordinary considering it was the professional opinion synopsis of a person like yourself. Would you settle out of court if that was offered? But as you can imagine there has been no reference to your pending litigation or that of Mr Amaral.

The media, particularly the press in the UK will be undergoing major revisions under the Leveson inquiry, but perhaps it needs also to concentrate of those aspects of PEOPLE or manipulate the media\generally, as was as the media\press & it’s practices. That manipulation of planned\scheduled interviews and very slanted reporting that is far from balanced. As you have now experienced yourself.

Attracta Harron - Eddie and Martin Grime.

I also have an image of what looks like Martin Grime and one of his dogs outside the home of Lisa Irwin. The day the police refused media coverage. Will post when I find.

A reporter based in Spain claiming police have been with Metodo 3 collecting evidence on Maddie... now is that bent police, are there any that are not bent in the MET ? Are they checking on Clarence Mitchell and the years of fabricated stories he has fed around Europe to the media? I won't hold my breath.

You are going to love this one Pat.

McCanns at this point were heavily involved with Ed Smart and the idea was to make a movie in the States, we are now at around 8 months since Maddies death . They had a plan to kill Maddie off by a pal of theirs, a nutty Portuguese lawyer so the McCanns could have an ending for their movie. At this point they had no problem with Maddie being dead BUT she had to die their way, PJ were having none of it...Maddie died in the apartment ! Can you understand the hatred now ?

I believe this is Martin Grime outside the Irwin home. Martin is left handed and always holds his dog with the left hand but the dog is not Eddie, different markings, these are the only dogs Martin will work with so looks like he has a new friend. Check with the FBI Pat I am sure they will confirm. x

Pat, for your information, the dog that was used in the Kate Prout case was the same one used in the Madeleine case, Eddie, he is now retired.

Pat Brown said...

Dear Anon, yes, I had thought I had read somewhere that it was Eddie, but when I went back to validate this, I couldn't find anything that supported this in print, including the info at the Eddie and Keela blog which just says "a cadaver dog." http://eddieandkeela.blogspot.com/

Pat, there are a few articles around, I found a couple

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1195160/Husband-accused-murdering-wife-gets-engaged-new-love-just-weeks-ahead-trial.html

A sniffer dog which took part in the hunt for missing tot Madeleine McCann was also called in without success.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2310628.ece

And a specialist sniffer dog which took part in the hunt for Madeleine McCann failed to find any trace of Kate — who went missing days before the couple's seventh anniversary.

Yes, I saw those, but that was a later search of the grounds, not the house search which got the hit. I am thinking maybe it was a different dog because if it were Eddie, one would think that would be on the Eddie and Keela page. Doesn't much matter though; a cadaver dog found the scent in the house. Also, the fact Eddie isn't running around barking everywhere goes to show he is not hitting wrongly. The outside search was for a buried body which is much more difficult for a dog to scent.

Anonymous said...

Pat it was definitely the search at the time that Eddie hit in the lounge, Eddie is retired now so would not have been used to search for the body the other week, but you are correct, the main thing is that a dog hit in the absence of a body and the culprit eventually confessed

Pat Brown said...

There were two searches of the grounds from what I read; one early on and one recently after Prout confessed and gave them a better idea exactly where Kate's body was buried on the farm. I can't find any proof it was Eddie in the house, so that is why I didn't mention it but it did say Eddie didn't find a body in the search (which I believe is the first one of the farmland). But, any cadaver dog that makes a hit makes me happy!

Wow, a whole lot of evidence found by those marvelous police dogs! I believe them. They don't lie. The people they 'tell' on do lie, however! Killer parents are scary, scary people. I find Mrs. McCann especially scary. I do look forward to her other children becoming adults and possibly telling us what they know. (If they survive their parents!). It's frustrating watching these killer parents get away with their crimes, especially since other children are involved and in danger. But, as long as we keep watchful eyes on them, the truth may eventually come out. Thanks for all your work for the truth for these precious children!! ~ KLGG (Olde Hippi)

What I really don't understand is how they got away with dismissing the dogs.
Their child is missing, the cadaver dogs pick up a scent - why do they discount the possibility of death.
IF Madeleine has not been found and there is the scent of death why did they not go oh my god the abductor must have killed our precious daughter.
Why did they not accept it and then blame it on the abductor.

How did they think that the dogs findings could be forever swept under the carpet?

Well, let me guess... Didn't Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez kidnapped Bianca? LOL

It's so amazing how many stupid excuses people can give to LE? Are they out of their minds? Geesh!

Morse is but one of the two new cadaver dogs used by GSSI, the company that Martin Grime is now director of. He is I was told last week by his office in the United States as I wanted his expertise yet again here where he has been and I have seen him in action with Eddie and Keela for real.

I am told that some dogs are trained on pork, not so Eddie and Keela, as a policeman now deceased told me that this was not done in this case. A body farm at Oxbridge is identical to that of US body farms and here the universities do state how decomposition works and at what temperature and what conditions.

It is due to Kate Prout and the dogs detecting in the very slabs that police knew she was dead and where she died. Kate stated in her Journal of a 'shoot' that day that was 'on' so her grave was there, right on the money. Right where only dogs, cadaver dogs could find her remains as no GPR could map this uneven terrain and her killer would be clever enough to read that before he killed his wife.

Kate was detected as to her killing place and later her burial place. That is why four days went by with GPR and measuring devices before she was found off the track the hunters of grouse would use and dogs could have found her if the shoot had still operated. Clearly the use of the grouse path was restricted as can be seen from normal dog walkers and from sports persons. To add to this, I cannot give an explanation of why or how dogs hit on a place and give an answer as the best answer is 'so what', or 'thank you'. Both are missing in some cases where this expert and his integrity are at work to find a missing person. I would be very, very pleased if Martin Grime found human remains on Wessenden as directed by sheep pens that did move due to flooding. This is the case of Keith Bennett who has been buried on this Moor where Myra Hindley drew a map denoting two watercourses and where the dogs and he have been deployed in the past. But, crucially information received by myself puts the sheep pens back as they were to form a new trajectory of a ridge, so I am hoping Martin Grime and his dogs do as they did with Kate Prout and find evidence of a body, and the right body that is of this victim. I pray for it as I have not the skill this man has or his team of dogs. As others have not said 'thank you' for his expertise demanded by the FBI in such cases I do as an ordinary person who wants to see closure for the mother after all these years.

Ah, the American desire to believe in magic. Magic science, magic dogs, magic cops ... too bad they fail some or all of the time.

UC Davis study finds detection dogs may exhibit the 'Clever Hans' effect.

"The study, published in the January issue of the journal Animal Cognition, found that detection-dog/handler teams erroneously "alerted," or identified a scent, when there was no scent present more than 200 times — particularly when the handler believed that there was scent present."

More than 200 times. Another example of wishful thinking failing - miserably.

Pat, I found an another article from early 2010 on the Eddie and Keela blog - second article down, from the Citizen, which clearly shows that Eddie was used in the initial searches. Rgds

Pat, I am so sorry to hear about Gwendolyn but I am glad to know that she was still with you when she passed. If memory serves me, at one point a few years back PGC was trying to have her removed from your home for zoning reasons?? I always wondered how that turned out.

Can't wait to read your profile about Maddie.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you!

I am thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to learn that you are pursuing legal action against the libelous actions of these two lowlifes.

I was amazed that all they had to do was file a fraudulent claim with Amazon and Poof! - freedom of speech is gone. Proud of both you and the excellent Anne Bremner for pursuing justice in this matter.

I would imagine that any person with marginal intelligence who has lived with a dog would have no trouble immediately understanding the credibility of cadaver dog hits and the irrefutable validity of such evidence. However, IIRC all 12 jurors in the Casey Anthony case totally disregarded and discounted the cadaver dog evidence as "not real science" and reported being "unimpressed" by it.

When you can find a dog who can be sworn in and cross examined let m know. But as long as you are claiming you can read the dog's mind by telepathy, I will cry, "Utter rubbish". "Sniff evidence" is as invalid as the FBI's "bullet lead analysis". It isn't science, it's witchcraft.

AVoS: The use of cadaver dogs in many situations has shown that dogs are reliable in the location of human remains. For a Court to admit the evidence, they only have to prove that the dog and handler had been trained by a nationally known expert in the field and were certified.

Many jurisdictions have handled cadaver dog cases, the only additional requirement they seem to impose is whether or not the dogs had a reliable performance history.

The Scientific Working Group on Dog and Orthogonal detector Guidelines (SWGDOG) has RECOMMENDED BEST GUIDELINES for training. They have been created because of the fact that there is a lack of uniformity in training. The recommended best guidelines are not mandatory, but are meant to help bring uniformity across the country and world. This site includes the Research and Technology and a Database of Published Literature along with multiple supporting appendix files and Case Law. http://www.swgdog.org/

Dogs are more accurate than machines, such as the GC/MS. Their skills surpass the level of the machines so these results can be verified.

Dogs are more accurate than machines, such as the GC/MS. Their skills surpass the level of the machines so these results can be verified.

Dogs have located everything from forensic cadaver material to disaster survivors as demonstrated during the terrorist attack on the WTC on September 11th and earthquakes all over the world.

While a dog's brain is only one-tenth the size of a human brain, the part that controls smell is 40 times larger than in humans. A dogs sense of smell is about 1,000 to 10,000,000 times more sensitive than a humans (depending on the breed). A human has about 5 million scent glands, as compared to a dog who has anywhere from 125 million to 300 million (depending on the breed).

When a dog smells something they are not just registering a smell, they get an entire story. They can smell pheromone which is not only found in the urine and fecal, but on the skin and fur. From this they can tell a lot about another dog or human including if they are male or female, what they ate, where they have been, what they have touched, if they are ready to mate, if they have recently given birth, or had a false pregnancy and what mood they are in. They have even been known to smell cancer on people, alerting them to it and saving their lives. They can even detect a seizure in a human before it occurs, and detect a variety of substances at concentrations one thousand to one million times lower than we can.

This means when a dog smells another person, tree that another dog has peed on, pant leg that another dog has rubbed up against, or a chair that someone has sat in, they are actually reading a story, not just smelling an interesting scent. While a human will smell something like spaghetti sauce as one smell, a dog smells each individual ingredient. Unlike humans, dogs can move their nostrils independently allowing them to know what direction a smell is coming from.

A dog can both sniff and breathe. These are two different functions. Breathing is for air, but when they sniff with short breaths they actually save some scent that does not get exhaled.

No argument. But when the handler says the dog found 'something' but can't bring it into court it's BS. Dogs are not swearable witnesses, subject to cross examination. They're just another legal fraud bringing the US 'system' into disrepute in such cases.
