Susan Atkins Dying of Brain Cancer

by Kathryn Casey

Well, folks, let's try not be too upset about this. The Manson Family Today website reported this afternoon that Charles Manson groupie and convicted murderer Susan Atkins (photos then and now) is dying of brain cancer and has only weeks to live. At her 1970 trial for the Tate/LaBianca murders, she snickered and laughed, seemingly oblivious to the horror of her crimes, yet in later years she was commended for saving the lives of other inmates. Atkins has been eligible for parole off and on, but it has consistently been denied. She once filed a lawsuit claiming to be a political prisoner. Atkins, who turned sixty just yesterday, has said that she became a born-again Christian in prison. Since she'll soon be meeting her maker, let's hope she did.

If Susan Atkins truly were a Christian, she would submit to Christ and stop enraging the families of the victims by constantly seeking parole. Her supporters say she has accepted responsibility for what she has done, but no she has not. She still wants an out, an excuse, a reason to get out. She always has. I feel sorry for her, but the unbelievably cruel things she did mandate that she remain in prison.

Susan Atkins has received abundant mercy: a chance to get sober, a chance to reflect, a chance to study the Bible, three meals a day, and even a chance to help others. She ought to stop making light of that and resolve to humbly and meekly subject herself to the gracious reprieve from an early death that God granted her and stop tormenting the families of her victims.

"Since she'll be meeting her maker"

That implies you believe in God.
You sure as hell have a funny way of showing it.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Thank you and goodnight.

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

It's not an eye for an eye unless someone is going to break into Susan Atkins hospital room hold her down and kill all of her friends and family in the room with her while she watches then stabs her to death while she screams for her mother.

It's not an eye for an eye it's justice.

Deleting people's comments because they don't match your opinion now?
Face facts- your lack of compassion is as bad as anybody elses.

Does anyone have an update on Susan Atkins' condition? I mean, she was supposed to be near death ages ago.

Who are these idiots who wail about the atrocities committed in the Manson murders, and then wish the same kind of death or worse for the murderers. Don't call other people savages if you you think like one yourself. How many of you screaming for vengeance are Christians? The hypocrisy is obscene.Atkins should remain in Jail, it's as simple as that, but I don't hate her or want vengeance on anyone's behalf. Grow up folks!

Susan Atkins is a most unfortunate individual. The world will be a better place without her. Her home is jail, she needs to die there. Cancer is a terrible illness, but it is NOTHING compared to what was done to Sharon Tate and the others that were murdered all for what? Hell awaits her eagerly, she should have ended her own life a long time ago.

From reading the comments I've noticed how bitter many of you are. Yes, what the Manson followers did was horrible but they have/are doing their time just as any other prison inmate. Wanting to watch some one die is pretty sick and in my opinion makes you on par with them. As a neuro science nurse I can tell you that brain cancer is a terrifying way to die, drugs don't completely ease the pain. I can only hope that those of you that are happy for Susans' impending death get some therapy.

When this woman finally dies, I hope someone writes"pig" on the door with her blood

I have watched alot of documentry's on this subject, alot and as i am from Wales in the UK there really is'nt alot of stuff on the tv about Charles Manson & the Manson family so i have used the internet to find more information on this matter,i have also read all the books i could find except one which is the one which a former cell mate wrote.Having watched and read ALOT of stuff on this subject my opinion is that, there were over 25 people in the "manson family" at the time of the murders,& out of over 25 people Charles Manson choose Susan "sexy sadie" Atkins 2 carry out these murders. Why is this so,i think through the haze of pot smoking sex and lsd it was totaly clear 2 him that she would not have a problem at all in carry out his most important test,it was'nt just Sharon Tate & her friends she killed there was also Gary Hinman & Shorty Shae & the poor guy who she talked in to shooting himself while having sex with her.So you could say that she is a serial killer,as killing more than three people is classed as serial killing, you would not let out Ted Bundy or The Son of Sam,the BTK killer or Jefery Dahmer just because they got sick so Susan Atkins should not be let out.I have taken lsd in different forms on many occasions & smoked pot & taken speed,at they same age that they were at the times of the killing it did not stop me from making choices or render me incapable of saying no,so the drug excuse is a load of pants & as for the helter skelter theory thats pants aswell, they were revenge killings it was all about money,Gary Hinman would'nt tell them where the money was the Tate's were killed because of the Beach Boy link to the songs that Charles wrote while staying there in the 60's and his music album that never came about,Shorty Shae was trying 2 get them of the land at the Shpan Ranch,it was all about revenge, susan atkins should not be let out of jail ever.As a young girl she could almost be angelic looking & as an older lady she is angelic looking and this creeps me out badly out of all the girls she was most evil, she had her own baby at home while she stabbed the life out of another baby,if u can detach yourself once you can do it again.Susan Atkins is also asking for to much if she gets out,she wants 2 change her name & wants 2 live in peace & be with her husband & to just be,these things that she is asking for she does'nt deserve she has been in jail for 39 years thats just over 4 years for each murder which is not enough it would insult the people they killed to let her out & to let one out would be to let them all out.

Life is about choices, isn't it. Susan was so young and pretty once, and threw her whole life away on that demon-possessed Manson.

For her sake, I hope she IS saved and her Christianity isn't just another sociopathic ploy. Only YHWH knows for sure, and she'll be seeing him soon enough.

If the eyes mirror the soul, Susan's eyes still look creepy and crazy, even in the 2001 photo, just like Manson's. Shudder.

She's crazy. That's all there is to say. Case closed.

The only compassion shown Susan Atkins was letting her live this long. That was certainly WAY more than she deserved given the animalistic, abhorrent, noncompassionate, merciless, disgusting and inhumanly violent way she slaughtered a pleading pregnant woman. She showed no remorse, and we as a society should give her the same courtesy. She's raped us of our hard-earned tax dollars for decades, and I for one will be happy to see my money going to important things instead of keeping a degenerate waste of life alive.

Mitch said: "....the way she slaughtered a pleading pregnant woman." There is no defense for that, is there? That poor little baby was more than far enough along to have been born and led a good, productive life. That chance was snatched away by a murderer. What would YOU think?

I remember this tradgedy, and the trials As an observer, I dont think however long the memory of these crimes,it can never be accepted for any of these criminals to be considered for release under any circumstances. It would be a concern for the possible dangerous resurfacing of Manson followers/supporters and those who really dont know or understand the magnitude of, and the safety of Susan Atkins herself, where actually would she be safe to die with dignity? The families have certainly relived year after year attending parole hearings to block the efforts for release of any of these criminals, it doesnt matter, to the American people or to the families, how much these people may or may have not changed or shown remorse, the family members who are repeatedly remembering the innocent who are dead and how they died will never allow as long as their letters and voices can be heard for these people to see the freedom of the outside world. I dont think the opinions will change and until all of these criminals are dead and buried, there wont be a sigh of relief ever. Im not sure the families can bring themselves to be compassionate towards any one of these criminals. Its a very difficult dilemma of emotions to contend with.

Susan, I hope you're having killer headaches because you deserve every bit of it.

I agree that all manson members of this crime should remain in jail until they take their last breath. One area I cannot seem to find and this may be right out in left field is... did Roman Polanski ever attend any of the parole hearings or was he ever required to or did he ever want to? Can anyone answer?

Ella said...

I thought old Roman was in Europe to escape going to prison for charges of having an affair with a minor child, a 13-year-old girl. Or was that so long ago that now he's back in the USA?

Well now she is gone...

I posted a year ago, and have just read up to the most recent posts.... Still disheatened that so many can show the same hatred and callousness that she displayed the night of the murders.

I understand the arguments of 'justice' etc.... Most of those arguments were based in statements like 'she is a child killer.' Well, not really. She may have killed 40 years ago, but she was no killer in her later years.

I would not have been upset with a release, but I feel it was probably better she paid the full price and expired in prison. Where she died was not important. The cost to keep her there is also unimportant. It's the concept that is important.

But what kind of society we are is also a pretty important concept. Those of you who hope she rots in hell or refer to her in terms she no longer is.... the hatred and hostility and vindictiveness is astounding to me. Exactly the same type she displayed when she proclaimed she had no mercy for Sharon Tate.

Why can't people just forgive (or not judge), be greatful for her obvious rehabilitation - and still oppose her release as a matter of justice????

The hatred (not just in this case, but in so many facets of life these days - even mere political discussions)... is just so disheartening...

I'm glad she remained and died in prison. I marvel at her rehabilitation and the good works she did. I hope and expect that God has forgiven her, and she is now free...

Maybe this makes me the meanest person on earth, but eventhough brain cancer is a very painful diesease, and it seems she did suffer some, for what she did she didnt suffer enough, she got to die with her loved ones around her. she robbed the loved ones of her victims, i read that her husband said no one worked harder than susan to right an unrightable wrong. yes it was unrightable so her working to make it right was a moot point. don't expect me to shed a tear, the only ones i have and still shed tears for are the victims and their loved ones.

I, too, have no sympathy for Susan, and I leave her ultimate penalty to be decided by a Power greater than myself. I do know that she had a powerful ministry that brought many souls to the Lord Jesus Christ, and I believe that will be taken into consideration. It is also a comfort to know that Sharon and her baby are in good hands now, and that someday her family will see them again.

Ella said...

But for Sharon's family, as they know, there are some things you can never get over. All you can do is outlive them.

sure,I know looks are'nt the most important and yes the crimes were horrific but I cannot deny,I always that that SUSAN was a BEAUTIFUL woman on the outside

*yaaaaawwwwwn*...boy that was...um, boring at best "and totally off topic."

My point exactly, thank you very much. I merely hold up the mirror to show you your own reflection. Raise your game and I won't have to lower mine :)

Ella said...

Uh....was that last post addressed to me? If so, I'll be glad to reply, but let me know first. Thanx, Ella

Anonymous said...

No, Ella, it was addressed to a poster on the first page, from some months ago.

I expressed views counter to the majority of those posting who, instead of simply addressing the point, felt the need to respond to me with insults and personal attacks. I therefore commenced a campaign of "button pushing" to see what kind of reactions could be evoked. I was not disappointed :)

I am generally just an observer when it comes to blogs, but this truly made me need to leave a comment. Excellent work!
