A Singular Event

by Kathryn Casey

Okay, perhaps I should be above shameless self-promotion. You may even wonder: Isn't this is a true crime blog? What's this woman doing posting about her novel?

Should that deter me? Maybe, but it's not.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, my first novel, SINGULARITY, hits stores. True crime is an element in SINGULARITY since I only decided to write crime fiction after a couple of decades of perusing crime scene photos and sitting through sensational trials. I'm not sure I could have written the novel if I hadn't worked one real case after another, first for magazine articles and later for books. You know, I can't think of a better preparation for writing fictional mysteries than investigating real-life murders.

The first in a series on Texas Ranger/profiler Sarah Armstrong, SINGULARITY picks up Sarah's life after the death of her husband, Bill, and while she and their adolescent daughter, Maggie, are still reeling from the loss. After a bizarre Galveston double-murder, that of a bigwig Houston businessman and his mistress, Sarah is pulled into a hotly contested case where she's the odd woman out, the only one not focused on the rich guy's not-so-grieving widow. Nothing in Sarah's career has prepared her for the strange world she enters, one where she's the only one convinced the murderer is a dangerous serial killer. She follows her prey's scent, until the killer sets his sights on her.

Publisher's Weekly calls SINGULARITY "riveting" and Booklist says it's "an impressive fiction debut." Last week Deadly Pleasures magazine notified St. Martin's, the publisher, that the book will be included on their Best Novels of 2008 list. Novelist C. J. Box labeled SINGULARITY "a harrowing debut," and mystery author Jessica Speart called the book "a bright new star in the mystery genre."

So please excuse the plug. Then hold on to the edge of your seats as SINGULARITY takes you on a thrilling ride across Texas.

Kathryn, I for one, greatly appreciate the fact that you've incorporated personal experience in your novel. After a decade in law enforcement, there's nothing like living in the real world to give you that authenticity as an author. Best of luck with Singularity.

Thanks, Ladies! It's appreciated. I'm a bit nervous about the launch. I guess it's that way when one tries anything new. But so far, so good!

Kathryn Casey, There is nothing wrong in you doing some self promotion for your new book "SINGULARITY". It's good to see someone proud of their own work! You are a very good writer and while I love True Crime, I still very much like crime fiction. It's great, I think that you had courage to write a crime fiction book after your true crime books. We can all do with some change in our lives once in awhile. You've got the talent, go for it!! Congratulations on this book. Grandma591
