KATHRYN CASEY BOOK SIGNING IN TEXAS!

By now it's no mystery. Kathryn Casey's first crime novel is a breakout hit. SINGULARITY landed in bookstores June 24, and reviews are hot. The latest comes from the August issue of Vanity Fair, which lists Kathryn's novel under "Hot Type," along with other current titles Vanity Fair considers "great new books."

And in Sunday's Baltimore Sun, SINGULARITY received high marks from a reviewer taken with the heroine, a woman Texas Ranger. Protagonist Sarah Armstrong has "the makings of a robust and long-lasting series character," said the Sun.

A reviewer for The Tampa Tribune agrees. Calling Armstrong a blend of James Patterson's Alex Cross and Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta, the critic raves "Not since 'Postmortem' has a crime author crafted such a stellar series debut."

Publisher's Weekly calls SINGULARITY "riveting" and Booklist says it's "an impressive fiction debut."

SINGULARITY will make Deadly Pleasures magazine's list of Best Novels of 2008.

Tonight, Kathryn will be autographing copies of SINGULARITY at Murder by the Book in Houston. The event begins at 6:30, with a party to follow across the street at Under the Volcano. If you're in the area, come by and join fans and other WCI contributors as we raise a glass for Kathryn Casey and her red-hot crime fiction debut, SINGULARITY.

A Singular Event

by Kathryn Casey

Okay, perhaps I should be above shameless self-promotion. You may even wonder: Isn't this is a true crime blog? What's this woman doing posting about her novel?

Should that deter me? Maybe, but it's not.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, my first novel, SINGULARITY, hits stores. True crime is an element in SINGULARITY since I only decided to write crime fiction after a couple of decades of perusing crime scene photos and sitting through sensational trials. I'm not sure I could have written the novel if I hadn't worked one real case after another, first for magazine articles and later for books. You know, I can't think of a better preparation for writing fictional mysteries than investigating real-life murders.

The first in a series on Texas Ranger/profiler Sarah Armstrong, SINGULARITY picks up Sarah's life after the death of her husband, Bill, and while she and their adolescent daughter, Maggie, are still reeling from the loss. After a bizarre Galveston double-murder, that of a bigwig Houston businessman and his mistress, Sarah is pulled into a hotly contested case where she's the odd woman out, the only one not focused on the rich guy's not-so-grieving widow. Nothing in Sarah's career has prepared her for the strange world she enters, one where she's the only one convinced the murderer is a dangerous serial killer. She follows her prey's scent, until the killer sets his sights on her.

Publisher's Weekly calls SINGULARITY "riveting" and Booklist says it's "an impressive fiction debut." Last week Deadly Pleasures magazine notified St. Martin's, the publisher, that the book will be included on their Best Novels of 2008 list. Novelist C. J. Box labeled SINGULARITY "a harrowing debut," and mystery author Jessica Speart called the book "a bright new star in the mystery genre."

So please excuse the plug. Then hold on to the edge of your seats as SINGULARITY takes you on a thrilling ride across Texas.

Booklist Gives Casey Novel "Singular" Honor

Contributor Kathryn Casey's debut novel has received a star from Booklist, a fitting symbol for SINGULARITY, a book with a star already on its cover. Featuring a Texas Ranger who happens to be a woman, SINGULARITY is first in a series of Sarah Armstrong mysteries. A star from Booklist indicates the book is "outstanding in its genre." Allison Block of Booklist praised Casey's novel: "An impressive fiction debut for true crime author Casey, whose memorable heroine has brains, moxie, and heart. Happily for readers, this is the first in a series." St. Martin's Minotaur will release SINGULARITY on June 24, 2008. Congratulations, Kathryn.
